Technology and Teams
The technology today has increased the flow of mass communication around the world which has changed how we communicate and changed our perspective. I am amazed at the number of people who subscribe to a cell phone 2.6 billion and 4 billion by 2010 is astonishing. I remember when my father had a huge 1980's cell phone and it was cool now the tool of a phone is an understatement. Our generation watched our technology innovate itself overnight with crazy ideas like email, text message, picture phones, Internet, and more i don't know about but they have created a link to the globe. I believe this connection of Technology and communication have increased the level of education but we have been losing substance because of the mass overload of information that is beat into the young generation. Some students are learning more effectively because of tools like video, power point, Internet resource it helps students learn through visual aids. This blog is a real communication process because I receive some form of feedback from other people who are in an organized group for a specific class. I am also receiving a grade which is a symbol which has an effect on me and my g.p.a.

I often wonder what the future holds for us in technology..I am I too remember back to when my dad had a car phone-the massive ones from the 80's and early 90s. And now today's technology as you have pointed out has become astonishing to us. Really though, what onearth will they come up with next and at the same time leave behind? I am very interested in knowing. I also blogged about this section and about how this class is online. I think that it is great that we have been able to have a class from our own living room, if you could say so. Technology ha schanged in so many ways but I think that one of the most beneficials ways has been in the case of having this early winter class online. We can do the work on our own time bugets and not have to worry about commuting to campus. And it is still onsidered a real class to me. Technology is amazing!
ReplyDeleteInformation overload is certainly a problem, and definitely an overload of irrelevant information. One key skill today is being able to quickly sort through all incoming information and identify what's useful and what isn't. For example, I set up my main email account to filter some of the messages I get, especially listserv messages, so I can focus on the ones that most need my attention. You make a good point that new technology as also given us new tools for teaching and learning. This is the third time I've assigned blogging for this class and students seem to find it works well as a learning tool. And as Olive Juice notes, an online class has much more flexibility than an in person class. I'd much rather be working from my home in Santa Cruz than commuting over the hill every day. And based on the amount of work my students and I have to do for it, it's definitely a "real" class.
